La noticia se dio a conocer durante la conferencia del lunes de Sony en la Gamescom, Ubisoft se ha asociado con Sony Pictures y la productora New Regency Productions — esta última con quien también están desarrollando la versión fílmica de Assassin’s Creed — para llevarla a cabo.
Y dada la temática de Watch Dogs, el resultado podría ser interesante y tal vez más fácil de producir que un filme que trata sobre asesinos, templarios, viajes en el tiempo y humanos ancestrales con superpoderes.

UBISOFT® EN CONEXIÓN CON SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT Y NEW REGENCY PARA UNA PELÍCULA DE WATCH DOGS™
MÉXICO, DF –20 de Agosto, 2013 – Hoy en el Gamescom durante la conferencia de Sony Computer Entertainment, Ubisoft® ha anunciado que su division de cine y television, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, está colaborando con Sony Pictures Entertainment y New Regency en el desarrollo de una película basada en Watch Dogs™, el esperado videojuego de acción y aventura a mundo abierto de Ubisoft. Ubisoft y Sony también mostraron un primer vistazo de exclusivo gameplay de Watch Dogs que estará disponible para PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system a finales de año.
“Ya que ambos, Sony y Ubisoft, tienen ramas de películas y videojuegos, éste acuerdo crea oportunidades excepcionales para que podamos unir los reinos de la experiencia cinematográfica historia basada en la interacción de los videojuegos”, dijo Jean-Julien Baronnet, director ejecutivo de Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Además, Sony Pictures y New Regency tienen experiencia en producción y nos están dejando mantener una voz fuerte y creativa en el desarrollo de la película. Juntos, estamos seguros de que podemos ofrecer una película que se basa en la emoción que el juego ya está generando”.
Comentando el anuncio, Hannah Minghella, presidente de producción de Columbia Pictures, dijo: “Los temas y el mundo abierto de ‘Watch Dogs’ se presta perfectamente para la pantalla grande. El juego cuenta con una intensa carga de acción y aventura, pero la historia se centra en la información y el control de ésta misma, que creemos que va a dar lugar a un thriller muy emocionante. Tiene un enorme potencial como una película y estamos encantados de tener la oportunidad de trabajar estrechamente con el equipo creativo interno de Ubisoft en el desarrollo del proyecto “.
Watch Dogs se centra en Aiden Pearce, un brilliante hacker empeñado en buscar venganza e infringir su propia marca de justicia después de una violenta tragedia familiar. Usando todas sus habilidades, Pearce hackea el sistema operativo central de Chicago (CTOs), que controla la infraestructura de la ciudad, incluidas las cámaras de seguridad, semáforos, y el transporte público, así como las bases de datos que contienen información clave sobre los residentes de la ciudad. En el juego, Pearce convierte toda la ciudad de Chicago en su arma definitiva. El juego recibió varios premios en el E3 2012, incluyendo Best of Show de GamingExcellence y tres premios (Mayor Sorpresa, Mejor Nueva Franquicia y Mejor Juego de PC) del IGN. El juego también ganó People’s Choice Most Exciting Game en GameSpot en E3 2013
El proyecto será supervisado por Ubisoft Motion Pictures de Ubisoft. En Columbia, Minghella y Sam Dickerman se encargará de supervisar el desarrollo, mientras que Alexandra Milchan y Andrew Calof trabajarán en la próxima película de New Regency.
